How to plan a Tibet tour from Guangzhou

Start your trip from Guangzhou where you can stay one day to visit the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, Canton Tower, etc. then take a train or flight to Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet. In Lhasa, you can plan a trip around 2~3 days to visit Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Namtso Lake, etc. Then you can leave Lhasa, and go to other destinations in China. If time allows, you can travel from Lhasa to Mount Everest, even Mount Kailash, then cross the Nepal-Tibet border to reach Kathmandu.

Xining Lhasa Flight Info

Currently, there is one direct flight between Lhasa and Guangzhou via Chongqing, operated by China Southern Airlines. It takes about 6 hours for the direct flight and about 1 hour for stopover. Additionally, some connecting flights stop at Chengdu, Chongqing and Kunming airport, so you can also transfer flights to Lhasa. You can search flight information on flight booking websites or just inquire our travel consultant about the flight or other information.

Xining Lhasa Train Info

There are two daily trains commuting between Guangzhou and Lhasa – Z264/Z265 and Z263/Z266. Z264/Z265 departs from Guangzhou Railway Station at 11:45 and gets to Lhasa Railway Station at 16:19 on the third day with duration of 52hrs and 34mins. Z266/Z263 starts from Lhasa Railway Station at 12:55 and arrives at Guangzhou Railway Station at 20:00 on the third day. The whole trip cost 55hrs and 5mins. The trains will stop at 10 midway railway stations.

The trains running between Guangzhou and Lhasa have three kinds of seats – Soft Sleeper, Hard Sleeper and Hard Seat. The different kinds of seats are charged with different price. The Hard Seat costs 447 RMB, which is just recommended to short-distance travelers because travelers can’t sleep in the carriages. The Hard Sleeper is much better and there is a berth for every passenger. It is charged 865~995 RMB. Soft Sleeper offers the best facilities and large space with the highest price – 1468 RMB or 1,557 RMB.

How to Get Tibet Travel Permit When Traveling to Lhasa from Guangzhou

As a common practice, we will deliver your Tibet permit to your hotel in Guangzhou by express, 1-7 days prior to your departure for Lhasa. It is common to get the permit even the night or a couple of hours before your departure to Tibet. In some extreme cases, our staff in Guangzhou will deliver it to your hand before departure at airport or railway station. If you take a flight to Lhasa from Guangzhou, the original copy is required, while if getting to Lhasa from Guangzhou by train, a printed copy is enough. Your travel consultant will handle with it perfectly according to the situation.

Why you can't get the permit much earlier?

The Tourism Bureau only accepts the permit application that is used to arrive in Tibet within 20 days. Generally, it takes 6-12 working days to issue the permit after we get the photo copy of your passport and Chinese visa. The application time depends on where you travel in Tibet, about 8-12 days to get the permit if heading to Mt.Everest and Mount Kailash, and just 6-8 days if you only travel in Lhasa City.

After we get the permit in Lhasa, we will deliver the permit to you immediately by express, and it takes around 6 days to arrive in Guangzhou. Therefore, you will only be able to get the permit within 1 to 7 days before your departure for Lhasa.

However, your personal consultant usually asks you to confirm the tour much earlier, because the earlier you provide all the required documents, the earlier we can submit to Tibet Tourism Bureau and wait for your turn.
